Gift presentation
Coffret Impériale
Cologne and soap together in a satin-lined box built for giving rather than for the shelf.
The presentation
The Coffret Impériale seats the Eau de Cologne Impériale beside the Savon de Luxe in a satin-lined case, its lid worked in florals and gold. Opened, it presents both products at once; closed, it is the object itself.
This is the Boldoot presentation most often kept long after it was emptied — which is why so many survive in Amsterdam cupboards and collections.
Historical context
Gift coffrets belonged to the period when scent was a proper present: a decorated box a household displayed, not a bag it discarded.
Because Boldoot was affordable and everywhere, a coffret was how the everyday cologne became an occasion — the same water, presented for a birthday or a wedding.
